Manfreight has made a pioneering move in sustainable logistics with the delivery of the UK’s first operational Schmitz Cargobull S.KOe COOL all-electric semi-trailer.
The state-of-the-art temperature-controlled trailer will be paired with a Volvo FM Electric, creating a fully zero-emission transport solution—an industry first for the UK. This bold step underscores Manfreight’s long-term commitment to achieving a net-zero fleet by 2045.
Presented during a handover event hosted by Schmitz Cargobull’s service partner, BP Commercials, the delivery brought together representatives from Volvo Trucks, Stena Line, key Manfreight customers, and partners from across the logistics ecosystem. Attendees were given a deep dive into the technology and benefits of the S.KOe COOL, which features an all-electric refrigeration unit, high-voltage battery, and energy-regenerating axle generator.
Chris Slowey, Managing Director at Manfreight, commented:
“The introduction of the S.KOe COOL is a major milestone. Working in tandem with the Volvo FM Electric, we now offer a 100% electric solution for temperature-controlled logistics. It’s a clear signal of our commitment to sustainable operations.”
Colin Maher, Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull UK & Ireland, added:
“The S.KOe COOL is perfect for companies like Manfreight that are leading the transition to cleaner, greener logistics. We’re proud to support them on this important journey.”
Manfreight will utilise the new trailer to service clients across Ireland and mainland UK, transporting sensitive cargo such as pharmaceuticals and raw food products. With ultra-quiet operation and zero emissions, the trailer is ideal for urban deliveries and environmentally sensitive zones.
This marks a significant advancement in Manfreight’s journey to decarbonise logistics while maintaining the high performance and reliability its customers depend on.
